The abstract expressionist Ad Reinhardt was known for his ‘Black’ paintings, which in fact contained almost imperceptible amounts of colour. I started this work just before Covid 19 lockdown and it is an exploration of the boundaries between drawing and painting, using monochrome acrylic ink blocks as the medium, where colour, if there is any, takes a secondary role.
