James Elkins, (What painting is) uses the metaphor of alchemy, suggesting it is

This body of work , produced over 2 years, involved walking the south coast of Cornwall including the Lizard, many times, as I became immersed in the landscape, its history, geology, weather and seasons. However the biggest influence on these paintings was the paint itself.
